Ever wondered which planets in Astrology have major influences on art and creativity? Well technically, they ALL deal with creation. Think about it. But in terms of human creativity in the form of what we like to call “art”, there’s a few starting points to look for.
The art world is all about giving attention to your:, Values, Relationships, Imagination and Emotions.
And then.. outwardly EXPRESSING all of that.
It’s also about: Communication, Ingenuity and, connections
Now what planets do those sound like in Astrology? The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Neptune.
1. Sun.
There’s not much I need to say about the sun other than, it’s the planet of self expression. An artist who doesn’t express themself, is an artist that doesn’t exist.. at least not in the artworld.
The sun, the shining light, the giver of life is NEEDED to create just about anything. Even shadows can’t exist without the sun. Or what about those organisms and entities that live underground, or deep in the ocean? They don’t need the sun do they? Maybe not directly, but the moment the sun stops existing, everything on this planet stops existing, including the shadow huggers. As far as we know it, the sun is what’s responsible for life here — whether you want to look at that statement physically or metaphysically. The sun regulates our walking life. The sun is the center of so many of our religious lives (and don’t even know it). It’s the first example of a bold expression.
Your sun placement tells you how you’ll express every planet afterwards. It explains how you’ll express your thoughts (Mercury), how you’ll express your values (Venus), how you’ll express your emotions (Moon). The sun is expression. The sun is the first step to all art.
2. The Moon.
The planet that deals with our emotions (probably one of the most important tools in the creative process). The sign the Moon is in, tells us what makes us feel emotionally comfortable (or the opposite). It also hints at how we choose to emotionally connect with others. The house it’s in, tells us what area of life you’re more likely to feel emotionally secure; Moon in the first house could indicate that you’re someone who feels secure within yourself — Moon in 2nd house could indicate you’re someone who gets your sense of emotional security from your possessions. At the end of the day, the Moon is all about your emotions.. and you’re NOT creating art without emotions. Doesn’t matter how “unemotional” you are, you use emotions in the creative process. Otherwise, how else do you tell when the work is “good?” Or at least good enough? Besides, why do you think you’re creating anyway? Boredom? Curiosity? For the feeling you get when you help others? Doesn’t matter which you choose. It’s all emotions.
3. Mercury.
When you’re not using emotions, you’re using thoughts. And that’s where Mercury comes into play. Wyat yo lu often find yourself thinking about, or how your thought processes work, can be seen from your Mercury. But it’s not all about thoughts and intellect, it’s also language. Well honestly. It’s communication in general. Think about it, how could you think without words? How could you speak, without words? Now that’s a different article, but I’m pretty sure you could still have some sort of thought process and communication style without words, just less precise and much more basic. Even though Mercury rules this, language is more specific to human verbal communication. So just for general purposes, ALL communication, is filtered through Mercury. Now try to be an artist without communicating, see how far they gets you. (Aka: publish your work. You have to communicate with an audience and your art peice is the language used to do so).
4. Venus.
The planet of values, relationships, and love. Also regarded as the “planet of beauty and art” by many astrologers. Your venus placement says multiple things about you; all of which, you’ll need to make qualitative art. You know what they say about the artworld… it’s all about relationships. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. And that’s exactly what Venus signifies, how you relate yourself to others… and the types of people you typically relate to.
In order to relate to people you have to share values, or at the very least, have something you deem valuable enough to express with these people.
Your sense of beauty can be seen from your Venus alignments also. Whether your style relates to others or not doesn’t matter, Venus is about where/how YOU see beauty. All of which being vital in the creative process.
5. Neptune
Some may argue that you could actually reach a state where you’re not necessarily thinking or feeling, just flowing — like autopilot. Welcome to Neptune. This is all about your imagination, your dreams, your ideals, your fantasies, and even your delusions. Probably one of the most important planets when it comes to art, even though it’s a “generational planet.”
There’s no such thing as art, if we were never given the ability to imagine. Neptune is what allows us to transform the mundane aspects of life into mystical and spiritual events.
Your Neptune placements hint at where you may spend the most time daydreaming, or what you may daydreaming about. Or literally dream, at night. Or dream as in goals. What are you biggest dreams? It also shows where you’ll have the most illusions or delusions, which both lead to extreme creativity.
Bonus… Jupiter
Extravagant experiences of exploration.
Not often regarded as the artist of the zodiac, but rather the explorer. That is, until it’s in its home sign of Pisces, or exaltation of Cancer, then all the artistic qualities will be evident. But when its in it’s other home of Sagittarius, or any of the other signs of that matter, it’s generally the explorer. That being said, exploration is a major part of art, as with more exploration comes more experiences — and how do you expect to create outstanding art, if you lack a wide perspective experiences?
With more experience, comes more wisdom. Now wisdom isn’t necessarily needed to create amazing art, but think about it.. a wise artist is much more likely to achieve that than an ignorant artist.
Your Jupiter placements tell you where you’ll find yourself exploring in this lifetime. Is it in foreign lands? Is it in the field of business? Or perhaps the cliche ‘explorer of life’, the ultimate philosopher? It also tells where you’ll gain a hefty amount of experience and thus, wisdom… and “blessings” according to some astrologers.
Another insight about Jupiter, is it’s the biggest planet in the solar system.. so this brings an element of “bigness and boldness” to things. This adds the tendency to be extravagant with your works. Now just imagine Venus or Mercury making an alignment to Jupiter… you might be pouring art.
